Profile

Dr Margherita Scazza is a teaching fellow in Human Geography in the School of GeoSciences, where she has recently completed her PhD. Her main research interests lie in environmental politics, Indigenous social movements and post-extractivism in Latin America. In her work, she combines political ecology and decolonial theory to investigate resource extraction, territorial transformations and Indigenous struggles for autonomy in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Her doctoral thesis explored Waorani activists’ anti-extractivist campaigning and efforts towards an autonomous education.
