Who gets to imagine the future? And how is the future built? Lee McNeish's ethnographic research explores these questions in relation to the land question in the Scottish Highlands. As technological futures connected to the outer-space industry collide with environmental futures of rewilding, tree plantations and green lairds, how do the communities that call this place home negotiate, navigate, and imagine their own futures? When trees become agents of the Clearances, rockets and satellites as agents of a sustainable industry, and crofting as a sustainable indigenous land management system, the horizon in the Highlands has become an important site for the future of humanity.
