Cormac Cleary's ESRC-funded PhD in Social Anthropology traces the parallels and tensions between Gaelic linguistic and cultural preservation and nature conservation in the Western Isles of Scotland. He has previously researched seal-fishery conflict in Ireland. He has a professional background in sustainable food systems and environmental management, as well as the arts. He has an interest in interdisciplinarity and creative approaches to the study of human interactions with the non-human environment.
