This July Jan Eichhorn has authored a report for the Heinrich-Böll-Foundation (affiliated with the German Green Party) in which he investigates to what extent perceptions of the climate crisis differ between rural and urban populations in Germany.

Using data from a major d|part survey, the analysis shows that concern for climate action is similar across all environments in Germany, however, which groups share particular views differs.

Young people in cities, for example, are occasionally more hesitant when it comes to infrastructure measures (compared to young people outside cities) – most likely due to worries about rental affordability.

Crucially, the report highlights the heterogeneity of populations within cities or outside and discusses how political actors can engage better with different groups.
