An exciting opportunity for a fully-funded PhD project has just been announced at the University of Edinburgh, working with an interdisciplinary supervision team: Dr Seb O’Connor, Dr Clare Barnes,  Prof. Klaus Glenk and Prof. Oliver Escobar.

The title of the project is Enabling sustainability transitions: identifying and challenging the glass ceilings on the pathways to a more sustainable futures.

The main objective is to understand social barriers to sustainability transformations so as to identify key leverage points that can enable transitions to a sustainable economy in Scotland. To achieve this main objective, the project is broken down into several steps.

  • To understand the glass ceilings that can act as obstacles to democratic pathways towards sustainable economies, as social or cultural perceptions of reality, and from both a supply and demand side perspective;
  • To envision plural future imaginaries as to what a sustainable economy across Scotland might entail; and
  • To identify possibility spaces as the key leverage points that can challenge the identified glass ceilings in order to enable the transitions to the imagined pathways towards a sustainable Scottish Economy.
